A coroner has issued a warning about the effects of medication used to treat depression after the husband of Prince and Princess Michael of Kent’s daughter took his own life. Thomas Kingston, a 45-year-old financier, died from a shotgun wound and a gun was found near his body on February 25 last year at his parents’ home in the Cotswolds. A coroner concluded Mr Kingston took his own life and was “suffering adverse effects of medication he had recently been prescribed”.

The number of people in hospital with flu in England continues to rise, with staff reporting they are under the same pressure as at the height of the Covid pandemic, the NHS medical director has said. Data from NHS England shows there were an average of 5,408 flu patients in beds in England each day last week, including 256 in critical care. This is up 21% from 4,469 the previous week, when 211 were in critical care.

The rugby community has rallied around the family of missing former England, Gloucester and Bath player Tom Voyce who is believed to have died after apparently trying to cross a flood-swollen river in his car during Storm Darragh. Northumbria Police said the 43-year-old, who was born in Cornwall, is believed to have gone into the River Aln near Alnwick, Northumberland. Officers are searching for Mr Voyce, who has not been seen since Saturday.
