Even as supply dries up, the demand for economical housing remains high in most metro cities. A study by property consultant ANAROCK showed that the stock of economic housing priced at less than Rs 40 lakh has dipped by 28 per cent in the first quarter of 2025. In its report which was released on Monday afternoon, Anarock said that at the end of the first quarter of the current calendar year, Pune reported unsold stock of 14,686 units as compared to 20,522 stock left post March 31,2024.

India’s sugar production figures have come under a storm with two industry bodies giving out two different figures. While the Indian Sugar Millers Association (ISMA) has painted a “positive and stable” outlook for the industry, a tight balancesheet due to lower-than-expected production can cause concern across the board. ISMA, which represents private sugar millers, earlier this week issued a press statement, estimating a final production figure of 264 lakh tonnes (lt) for the 2024-25 season.

The National Federation of Cooperative Sugar Factories Sunday issued its latest sugar production figure pegging the final figure at a modest 259 lakh tonnes (lt) for the sugarcane crushing season of 2024-25. This is a significant drop and deviation from the figures issued by India Sugar Mills Association (ISMA) another industry body whose first estimate for the season was of 272.2 lt.

WITH RISING temperatures driving away the winter and multiple heat waves since the start of the year, mango farmers in the Konkan region of Maharashtra — home to the Alphonso variety — are a worried lot. Mandar Khedkar, who has three orchards in Sangameshwar and Ratnagiri talukas of Ratnagiri district, says his mango trees have not seen any flowering or fruit formation post-December. The current harvest season will be over by early April, but his trees may not bear fruit.
