A bus full of determined athletes rolled out of Jenkins High School this week, bound for Albany and the GHSA Class 3A state track and field championships. The Warriors are sending about 20 state qualifiers to the meet, and after bringing home one first-place medal last year, they enter the competition as serious contenders for multiple titles in both boys’ and girls’ events. “It’s family for real,” said senior sprinter Coray Stafford, a top contender in the 100- and 200-meter dashes.

Bryson Nimmer clinched his first Korn Ferry Tour victory in a playoff at the inaugural Tulum Championship at PGA Riviera Maya.The 27-year-old from Bluffton, South Carolina started the final round four shots off the lead but birdied the final hole to card a 4-under 68 and take the lead into the clubhouse. Stuart Macdonald holed out on his approach shot at the 18th hole to force a playoff.

Faith Barth’s three-run homer in the third inning lifted Georgia Southern to a 3-1 road win over James Madison in the regular season finale.Barth’s first home run of the season came after back-to-back hits by Madison Humber and Emma Davis, breaking a scoreless tie and giving GS all the offense it needed. Davis finished 2-for-4 with a double, while Humber and Brooke Kell also added hits.Alana Barnard earned the win with five solid innings, allowing one run on six hits.
