Noah Johnson, a rising sophomore in mechanical engineering from Washington, Illinois, won first place in S&T’s first Grand Micro Challenge in late April. The challenge gave students just a few hours on a Sunday afternoon to propose a way of storing the energy generated by sun and wind without relying on lithium-ion batteries, which are widely used and almost impossible to recycle, or to propose new methods of developing and recycling lithium batteries.

Registration is now open for Movie Makers, an evening camp offered by the Kummer Center for STEM Education at Missouri University of Science and Technology. Movie Makers takes place 5-9 p.m. Monday, June 24, through Friday, June 28. The camp is open to students entering grades 5-8 and grades 9-12. Tuition is $400, which includes all equipment, activities, supplies, and meals. Scholarships are available, but space is limited, and the camp is filling quickly.
