Emotions were on full blast for the Hixson High School boys' soccer team seconds after defeating East Ridge 2-1 in Thursday's TSSAA District 6-3A championship game at Camp Jordan's Stadium Field. Hixson goalkeeper Tariq Reese and midfielder Pablo Sanchez made heroic plays within minutes of each other in the second half to help seal the Wildcats' first district tournament title since May 12, 2015.

Matt Roberson's Red Bank baseball team simultaneously threw their hands up in the air as District 6-3A pitcher of the year Sean Brune sealed the Lions' first district tournament championship since 2012 Monday night. Brune coaxed a ground ball to senior star shortstop Anyer Alvarez for the final out in Red Bank's 2-1 road victory over Soddy Daisy and a dogpile ensued behind the pitcher's mound followed by a postgame ice bath for Roberson.

Chumley Field. But like lightning, the moment and the lead didn't last for the host Bruins in their best-of-three series against Cherokee Bluff in the second round of the GHSA Class AAA playoffs Thursday evening.
