HUMPHREY — The bid has been accepted and financing in place for the city and water extension project. The Humphrey City Council voted last month to accept Rutjens Construction’s bid and the issuance of water and sewer bond anticipation notes to pay for the construction costs for water and sewer improvements. Rutjens’ bid was $2,620,634, with a start date of July 1, and completion date of July 31, 2026. Also bidding were Obrist & Co. with $3,095,468 and VanKirk Bros. with $4,329,572.

HUMPHREY — A small but engaged group heard about the Humphrey Public School’s proposed design for a new 7-12 facility. About 20 people, plus school administrators and teachers and representatives from companies involved in the process, gathered in the school gym last month to hear about the project, ask questions and give their input. Another meeting at Lindsay Academy was held last week.

HUMPHREY — A architectural firm has been hired to design a new St. Francis Elementary School. The St. Francis Parish announced “a significant milestone in its new school building project,” according to a press release issued by the building project steering committee. After interviewing several architectural firms, the committee has selected Carlson West Povondra Architects (CWP) of Omaha to lead the planning and design process.

HUMPHREY — If Humphrey Public School moves forward with another bond issue, the public will have an opportunity to help determine what a new facility would look like. Options considered will be presented at a meeting at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 30, at HPS and 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 7, in Lindsay at the Lindsay Academy. The public is encouraged to attend. This would be the third attempt to pass a bond issue. Two previous bonds failed in August 2023 and November 2024.

HUMPHREY — Humphrey Public School students will attend classes in two portable classrooms next year. The board of education has approved the lease of two modular classrooms from Wakefield Community Schools. The board has been discussing the lease for several months as a way to temporarily ease the space constraints of the current building. Superintendent Brice King has been working with Wakefield schools and Mobile Modular of Elkhart, Indiana, the manufacturer.

Lindsay voters narrowly approved a 1.5% sales tax Tuesday in a special mail-in election. Platte County election commissioner Eryn Roberts said unofficial results show 49 voted for the sales tax and 46 voted against it.
