After 19 years in Major League Baseball, Nelson Cruz is calling it a career — at least as a player. Cruz, who hit 464 home runs in his career with a .274 batting average between his 19 seasons, has been hired by the Dodgers as an adviser expected to work predominately out of the team’s academy in the Dominican Republic, where Cruz is originally from. As the Chicago White Sox revamp their coaching staff under second-year manager Pedro Grifol, Dodgers baserunning and outfield coach Jason Bourgeois has been hired as the new first base and outfield coach of the White Sox. Bourgeois spent the past five seasons on the Dodgers’ coaching staff in the minor-league system. Bourgeois, 41, thanked the Dodgers organization in an announcement on X, formerly known as Twitter.

Gavin Lux’s absence greatly hurt the Dodgers this season after the infielder went down with a torn ACL and sprained LCL during Spring Training. General manager Brandon Gomes said that Lux is on track to return to the diamond in 2024 but will not be participating in winter ball. Gomes also suggested that star utilityman Mookie Betts would be playing more second base next season. Betts excelled at the position in 2023 and his versatility allowed the Dodgers to put together a more complete lineup.
