More than two dozen Henrico fifth-graders were honored this winter for their winning entries in the Historical Awareness Project.  Sponsored by the Historic Preservation Advisory Committee and Henrico County Recreation and Parks, the annual competition awards top students in each of the magisterial districts for their presentations (either on poster board or computer) of local history topics.

At the taqueria, I enjoyed a long happy hour with two friends, who were as pleased as I was with the casual vibe and easy-on-the-wallet menu items – not to mention a Mexican IPA on tap.

The Chick-fil-A at White Oak Village in Eastern Henrico erupted in cheers Feb. 26 as team member Taylor Powell was surprised with a $25,000 scholarship and a new laptop.  Having survived a malignant brain tumor as a child, Powell plans to use the scholarship to major in psychology at University of Virginia and pursue a career as a clinical child psychologist.

A crowd of friends, family, neighbors, and fellow church members joined Sarah Mayfield Feb. 8 for the launch of her new book, This Sure Thing, at Community West Church on Pump Road in Henrico. Mayfield, a resident of Crown Grant, wrote This Sure Thing as a tribute both to her late son Elliot and to his brother Bradley.
