This month the U.S. Supreme Court reconvened when public confidence in the court is at a new low. Polls show how dramatically public respect for the court has declined over the last decade. If this decline continues, it threatens our civil democratic society. It is becoming a more serious concern given that the court may play a major role in deciding the 2024 election.

By PAUL ANDERSONShohei Ohtani‘s former interpreter is expected to plead guilty Tuesday in Santa Ana federal court to charges of stealing nearly $17 million from the Dodger slugger’s bank account to pay off illegal gambling debts. Ippei Mizuhara, 39, has agreed to plead guilty to one federal count each of bank fraud and subscribing to a false tax return, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office.

Netflix Hulu Disney+ Since it first started distributing movies and shows over the internet in 2007, Netflix has enjoyed an enormous head start over its competitors. Rival entertainment companies got sucked into an all-out arms race in 2019 and 2020 as the pandemic closed theaters and people around the globe kicked back in front of their streaming devices. But as entertainment companies struggle mightily to make their streamers profitable, they’re turning to their old rival for help.

The Roku Channel has always been a great way to watch free TV. Now, tennis fans have even more to enjoy. The service is offering the T2 channel with original programming and events that don’t appear on the main Tennis Channel. T2 debuted in 2022 and since has provided fans with more free, live tennis. From January through November, professional tennis features multiple tournaments every week most of the time, sometimes as many as six at once.

“I used to be a real news junkie,” says Louise, a 31-year-old lawyer who lives (like me) in Ipswich, England. “It was two TV news programmes every night, radio news in the morning before starting work, constantly checking the BBC News app and the Guardian during the day. Sometimes I even sat glued to the BBC 24-hour news channel for hours. But for some reason I’ve stopped doing it since the pandemic. Maybe I just had too much time at home during lockdown, I don’t know.
