Earl Allen Wernsman, son of the late Everett and Eleanor Marie Johnson Wernsman, was born November 4, 1935, in Marion County, Illinois. He died peacefully in his home on Thursday, January 16, 2025. Dr. Wernsman received his primary education in Marion County schools and enrolled in the University of Illinois in 1954, where he received BS and MS degrees in agronomy. He attended Purdue University and was granted a Doctor of Philosophy degree in agronomy and plant genetics in 1963.

Doris Katherine Metzger, the daughter of the late George Dennis Metzger and Erma Ione Funk, was born on September 6, 1937, in Fayette County Illinois near the village of Shobonier. She died on October 20, 2024 at her home in Raleigh, NC. After her family left the family farm, Doris attended primary and secondary schools in Vandalia. Upon graduation from Vandalia Community High School, she attended the Barnes-Jewish Nursing School in St. Louis and received her registered nursing license in 1958.

Phyllis Johnson Rames peacefully passed away, surrounded by family, on the morning of January 19, 2025. Phyllis was born on September 28, 1928, in Elmhurst, Illinois to Dr. Richard George Johnson and Laura Evelyn Johnson. She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in English and Speech from the Universit y of South Dakota and a Master of Arts degree in English Literature from the University of Illinois. While at the University of South Dakota she met and later married Donald H. Rames.
