Preston Woodworth struck out 11 and hurled a three-hitter as Medina (22-1) defeated Wellsville (16-4), 6-2 in the New York State Class B sub-regional at Colburn Park, Wednesday night. Woodworth hit the first Wellsville batter that came to the plate before facing the minimum through the first three innings.

It didn’t matter, though, the junior catcher and her Bloomfield teammates took another step Monday night toward their ultimate goal. McCombs highlighted a four-run sixth inning with an RBI double, and the Bombers went on to defeat Bolivar-Richburg, 4-0 in the Class C state qualifier Monday at the Saunders Complex on the Livonia Central School District campus.
