By PAUL GOTHAMNEWARK, N.Y., — For the second time in as many years, the Wellsville Lions’ season came to an end with a loss to Section VI champion, Medina. Preston Woodworth struck out 11 and hurled a three-hitter as Medina (22-1) defeated Wellsville (16-4), 6-2 in the New York State Class B sub-regional at Colburn Park, Wednesday night. Woodworth hit the first Wellsville batter that came to the plate before facing the minimum through the first three innings.

The Kendall third baseman, who provided the game winner in the Eagles’ semifinal victory over Oakfield-Alabama, was at it again, Tuesday night. This time he helped clinch the program’s second trip to the state quarterfinals.

It didn’t matter, though, the junior catcher and her Bloomfield teammates took another step Monday night toward their ultimate goal. McCombs highlighted a four-run sixth inning with an RBI double, and the Bombers went on to defeat Bolivar-Richburg, 4-0 in the Class C state qualifier, Monday at the Saunders Complex on the Livonia CSD campus.

The senior left-hander retired the side on strikes in each of the first four innings and improved to 5-2 on the season. “When the lights are on, Cam is at his best,” said third-year Mendon head coach Shaun Caveny.

Leading 5-0 when rain caused the suspension of play Friday night at Dwyer Stadium in Batavia, the Eagles made sure to keep their momentum. Tournament MVP Gavin Braun scattered five hits in a complete-game shutout, and top-seeded Kendall (22-1) claimed the 2025 Section V Class C2 title with a 6-0 victory over No. 2 Genesee Valley-Belfast on Saturday.
