OZARK — It wasn't the trophy Trey Jozwiakowski wanted to carry off the field Saturday afternoon at Ozark Mountain Sports Complex. But as the Vianney senior third baseman looked back on his four-year career, he had a simple proclamation after the Griffins settled for a Class 5 runner-up finish with a 14-4 loss to Platte County in the Class 5 baseball state championship. The game was called after five innings by run rule.

OZARK — For the first time since 2022 and only the second time since 1995, no St. Louis-area school will be playing for a state baseball championship in the highest classification. Parkway South (22-11) and Fort Zumwalt West (33-9) both lost semifinals Friday and are scheduled to face off at 4 p.m. Saturday in the Class 6 third-place game. Kansas City powers Blue Springs South (26-7) and Staley (38-3) are in the title game, scheduled for 7 p.m. Saturday.

OZARK — Vianney and Platte County advanced to the Class 5 baseball state final with victories Friday in the semifinal round at Ozark Mountain Sports Complex. Vianney defeated Marshfield 8-3 in the first Class 5 semifinal game, and Platte County downed Summit 6-1 in the second contest in games that were delayed due to scattered thunderstorms. Vianney (38-1) and Platte County (28-8) will play at 1 p.m. Saturday in Class 5 final.

The Father McGivney baseball coach, Erwin thought there was a volcano's worth of emotions swirling underneath the surface of Terhaar, his senior third basemen, just waiting to be unleashed. "When he was younger, I didn't really know how it was going to go with him," Erwin said. "Then I realized that is just who he is."Terhaar could be swinging the hottest bat in the Midwest or the coldest.
