It’s not always clear to know when a sports team hits rock bottom, to know the exact game or exact situation where a team has reached the lowest ebb in its history – it can often be in the eye of the beholder. But in the case of the Edmonton Elks, it’s clear as day. July 30th 2023, the day the Edmonton Elks set a new record for longest home losing streak in North American professional sports (twenty-one consecutive defeats) in a 27-0 loss to the BC Lions.

In 2024, the NWSL will expand to fourteen teams with teams from San Fransisco and Salt Lake City set to join North Americas premier Woman’s soccer league. Woman’s soccer has been rising and rising for years now, and there is no reason why the current rate of expansion can’t keep going.

Full disclosure, I’m not here to categorically say that Canada should fire the men’s National team’s most successful coach since the eighties. But football is a fast, results-driven business. It’s not March 2022 anymore, and after a run of form that has seen Canada soccer handed a big reality check, perhaps it’s time we examine John Herdman closer, and ask the uncomfortable question, is he good enough to lead Canada in 2026?

It’s now officially been thirty years since the biggest prize in Canadian sports, the Stanley Cup has been won by a Canadian team. Plenty of Canadians have hoisted the famous trophy in that time, but the nation is anxiously waiting to see the Stanley Cup where they think it rightfully belongs. Along the way, teams have come close, plenty of Canadian teams have came and went that were legitimate cup contenders, and should history have been slightly different, Canada’s drought would not be as long.

The second edition of the CONCACAF Nations League Finals starts on June 15th in Las Vegas Nevada, and there are four teams all eying the trophy. It’s our first real test of where the hierarchy in CONCACAF stands post-World Cup and there is reason to believe each team left has a chance. MexicoOn a rainy, stormy day in Mexico City, El Tri did just enough to hold off Jamaica in a 2-2 which meant they won Group A with eight points.

Last January, we seen Canadian internationals make some really smart career moves. Alistair Johnston, (Celtic) Ismaël Koné (Watford) and Derek Cornelius (Malmö) have all greatly benefited from a move, and now naturally the question is who will get a move this summer? This isn’t to say these players will move, rather these players could potentially benefit from a move.
