A WOMAN in her 70s has suffered ‘life-changing injuries’ after being hit by a car in Sherborne. The incident occurred at around noon on Thursday (June 19), when a silver Kia Venga collided with a pedestrian in Cheap Street. “The pedestrian – a woman in her 70s – sustained life-changing injuries and was airlifted to hospital for treatment,” a Dorset Police spokesperson said. The driver of the car was not injured.

THE Blandford School has reassured parents there are more steps to be completed before it becomes part of a trust hit by staff strikes this week. On Tuesday (June 17), staff at Shaftesbury School staged a walkout over changes to operations there – and at Sturminster Newton High School – which would see curriculums and some staff roles merged.

POLICE are appealing for information as they attempt to track down a stolen horse cart. The vehicle was taken from an equine unit in Witch Lane, East Stour, at some time around 2.45am on Sunday, June 1. Electrical items, tools, horse riding gear and a four-wheel Hartland carriage picnic cart – valued at approximately £2,500 – were reported as missing after the raid.

A HOME-BIRTH team is celebrating 10 years in operation – helping deliver more than 1,000 little ones across the Vale and beyond. Dorset County Hospital’s (DCH) Cygnet Homebirth Team – part of the Maternity Service – has celebrated its landmark anniversary, having been launched in June 2015. To celebrate their birthday, the team held a party at Stratton Village Hall and were joined by many of the families they have supported over the years for afternoon tea, cake and games.

A NEW sensory garden has been opened at Dorset County Hospital (DCH) – thanks to a £50,000 cash boost. The Dorset County Hospital Charity received money from the Greener Communities Fund – a partnership between NHS Charities Together and the environmental charity Hubbub, supported by Starbucks which supports the development of green spaces to help health and wellbeing – to turn a disused courtyard opposite Special Care Dentistry into a space for patients, staff and visitors.
