A POPULAR Spetisbury venue has closed down “due to the financial climate” after 10 years. The Shack, at Clapcotts Farm, made the announcement on social media, prompting an outpouring of sadness from customers. “It is with great sadness that due to the financial climate we are forced to announce the closure of The Shack as of Saturday, April 12,” a statement from Shaun, Marcia and Toby said. “We would like to thank all of our suppliers, many of whom have been with us from the very start.

THE A303 is closed at the junction with the A350 and the B3081 junction after a crash last night. Police are dealing with a “serious road traffic collision” and said the road is expected to remain closed for three more hours. Drivers are being encouraged to “seek alternative routes” until the road re-opens.

WESTON-super-Mare’s oldest building has had a makeover in the form of a new thatched roof on an extension. The feature has been carefully constructed, using traditional craftsmanship skills, on an extension to The Old Thatched Cottage – one of the resort’s most well-known restaurants. Skilled thatchers were required to match the roof to the covering already in place = the last remaining thatched roof in Weston.

A HUGE annual machinery sale between Taunton and Bridgwater welcomed record numbers – as it marked its 70th anniversary. The Greenslade Taylor Hunt (GTH) Annual Spring Machinery Sale, at Walford Cross, saw a record number of lots post-Covid and a record-breaking turnover. It also attracted a record attendance and an active online bidder input, with around 2,300 lots on offer including 100 tractors and vehicles, 550 lots of machinery and 1,600 lots of miscellaneous items.

A SOMERSET house which provided the backdrop for two series of the Great British Bake Off is up for sale. Harptree Court, in the Mendip Hills, is on the market with Savills with a tasty asking price of just under £7 million. The Georgian property was built in 1797, originally known as Richmond Hall and owned by Joshua Scrope. Scrope, Lord of the Manor in Long Sutton, Lincolnshire, sold it to the Waldegrave family in 1803, who owned it until 1858, when it was bought by a Miss Gurney.
