A guy named Steve Hartman claims he invented the first pool noodle in 1980. He was an engineer in Canada. He developed foam rods for industrial pipe insulation but he soon saw their potential to be pool toys. He still sells pool noodles through his company, and he still holds a significant portion of the market, at about 50%. His company sells millions of pool noodles annually. Another Canadian guy named Rick Koster claims he came up with the idea for his kids.
