The HSE has warned of a "significant" risk to its programme aimed at reducing the number of people under 65 living in nursing homes. In a letter to the Ombudsman's office, seen by Prime Time, the HSE said it requested €8.5 million to relocate 40 people under the age of 65 from nursing homes in 2025. It was allocated only €4.8 million — enough to fund just 24 moves to more appropriate settings in the community, including group or individual houses or a return to their family home.

A campaign for a public inquiry that began soon after Monaghan man Shane O'Farrell was killed in a 2011 hit-and-run, ended today as the Minister of Justice issued a Government apology to the O’Farrell family and promised reforms. A 23-year-old law graduate, Shane was knocked down and killed by a car driven by Zigimantas Gridziuska in August 2011.

Jack Carey (53), a Kilkenny native and former hurley maker, appeared in court on Wednesday charged with 14 offences under the Companies Act. At District Court 4 in Dublin's Criminal Courts of Justice, Judge John King said he was refusing jurisdiction in the case, as the case must be dealt with by a higher court. Mr Carey, with an address in Graiguecullen, Co Carlow, has not yet lodged a plea. The case is scheduled to come back before the court in late April for service of the book of evidence.
