Local RCMP recently welcomed a new K-9 unit that will be working out of Kimberley and Cranbrook: Porter and handler Cst. Britteny George. Cst. George and Porter come to the area from the Lower Mainland District Integrated Police Dog Service. Porter is around four years old, and has been in the service for around 2.5 years. Porter's favourite toy, or reward, is a squeak ball and his favourite off-duty activity is swimming.

Amid concerns of threats to the Columbia Valley's waters, Wildsight will host "Flowing It Forward," on Sunday, March, 30 from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the Radium Hot Springs Centre, a free event for anyone interested in the health and stewardship of local waterways. Wildsight says the combined impacts of invasive species, an increase in water-based recreation and climate change are threatening the "once-pristine" waters of the Columbia Valley.

With spring right around the corner, a new fresh 15 centimetres of snow fell at Kimberley Alpine Resort (KAR) in the seven days leading up to March 12, with more in the forecast, and the resort has announced more details for their end-of-season festivities. "Kimberley is famous for spring skiing, snowboarding and festive events," said Christine Schultheis, KAR general manager.
