    It could take another 25 years for Shrewsbury's controversial North West Relief Road (NWRR) to become carbon neutral. Shropshire Council said offsetting the scheme's impact by 2030 was now "considered impossible" ahead of a committee meeting on Tuesday. The latest methods for estimating the impact of the project have seen the expected carbon cost more than double – from 26,711 tonnes of carbon to 55,904.

    A large energy storage unit could be built on a former airfield near Oswestry - with plans to store enough excess energy to power 163,350 homes a year. A planning application submitted to Shropshire Council said the battery energy storage system (BESS) would be built on land east of the Rednal Airfield. Elmya Energy, who are behind the project, said the proposed site was carefully selected to minimise its environmental and community impact.

    Members of a town council have been told "to get their their thinking caps on" to try to save their leisure centre. Shropshire Council is consulting on withdrawing the subsidy it provides to open Much Wenlock Leisure Centre to the public. On Thursday, councillors agreed to come up with ideas on how to save the facility. The council has stressed the consultation is so it can look at ways for it to remain open.

    A water company has reassured residents over "misinformation" relating to a proposed Shropshire sewage pipe after more than 6,000 signed a petition against its plans. Locals and environmentalists are worried about the four-mile (6.4km) pipeline planned to carry sewage effluent from Bishop's Castle to the River Onny. Currently, the wastewater is discharged into the River Kemp, a tributary of the Clun.

    A solar farm to power about 3,000 homes could be built on a rural site in Shropshire if plans are approved. The proposals, from G Power Solar Ltd, are for a 24.5 hectare (60.5 acre) site at The Beeches, off Alkington Road, near to the A41, close to Whitchurch. Sheep grazing would continue at the site around the panels, which have a lifespan of about 40 years, Rachael Leather, from Atticus Planning, said.
