    Update (May 12, 2025): El Paso Police just announced the arrest of Michael Gary Myers, 56, and Ransford Julian Myers, 24, in connection with this incident. Police identified the person who died as Hugo Benitez, 35. Police officials say officers who arrived at the scene found Benitez and two other men suffering from stab wounds.

According to data from the U.S. Forest Service, the fire is now 77% contained, and is down to 482 acres in size. At its peak, the fire grew to over 900 acres.     EL PASO, Texas (KVIA) -- UTEP President Heather Wilson, Texas State Senator César Blanco and other school officials are set to make an announcement "that will have a transformative impact on the University’s forthcoming mining engineering program," according to a news release. The announcement will take place at 10 a.m. Tuesday. The school announced the return of the Mining Engineering program in September 2024. It's scheduled to return in Fall 2027.
