London Classic Theatre is celebrating its 25th anniversary with an extensive UK tour of this early Alan Ayckbourn play. The piece premiered in the West End in 1977, following the success of The Norman Conquests and Bedroom Farce, and bears all the hallmarks of classic Ayckbourn. Directed here by Michael Cabot, LCT’s artistic director, its comedy hasn’t aged too well, as the author exposes the disintegration of a marriage and the precipitation of a mental breakdown.

“Red-hot comedy cabaret”ReviewsLafayette, LondonThe cast of Sabrage at Lafayette, London. Photo: Matt CrockettExuberant and raunchy blend of circus and burlesque, perfectly framed in this intimate venue For the uninitiated, the act of sabrage refers to the ceremonial opening of a bottle of champagne with a sabre. It was a trick and term allegedly coined by Napoleon’s hussars and now lends its name to a new circus/cabaret event from Australian producers Strut and Fret.

The Salty Brine 50ml London Dry Gin 20ml Lillet Blanc 10ml Fino Sherry Pour ingredients into a cocktail shaker with plenty of ice. Shake vigorously and strain into a chilled coupe glass. Garnish with a large cocktail olive - two if you've had to skip lunch for a late matinee. https://t.co/vD10rp0sK3

At the day job today, then heading for the West End tonight. Hitting the art shops first, then cocktails and dinner with Sean Barrett and friends before the Soho Theatre and These Are The Contents Of My Head - my pick of the Edinburgh Festival Fringe 2024. Can’t wait!

This was such an engrossing performance. I thoroughly recommend taking a trip out to the beautiful @WatermillTh to catch it.
