Medomak Valley softball pitching ace Sidney Nichols fired up a perfect game in the Lady Panthers 15-0, three inning, mercy rule win over Lincoln Academy. Nichols struck out eight, walked none, and gave up no hits. Olivia Ball took the loss for the Eagles (2I,8H,6R,3B, 1K), and Bronwen Coffin closed out the game in the pitching circle (.2I, 5H, 9R, 2B, 0K). The Panthers smashed 13 hits in the win.

Medomak Valley will be hospting summer boys youth basketball camp for Grades 2-10 for two sessions this summer at Medomak Valley High School. The first sessions runs from June 23-26, and the second from June 30- July 3. Panther Pride Camp for students entering gardes 6-10 will from from July 7-9.

Legendary Boothbay Region High School coach and teacher Irving “I.J.” Pinkham is perhaps best known around the state as the winningest boys basketball coach in Maine history, but in the Boothbay region, he is also known as a passionate math teacher who had a lasting impact on all students, including those who struggled with the subject. Pinkham, a soft-spoken leader on and off the court who coached three generations of Seahawks at Boothbay Region High School, died April 15 at the age of 77.

A new baseball team in the Pine Tree Men’s Baseball League will play its home games at Wiscasset Middle High School. The Lincoln County Cardinals are made up of local men between ages for 18 and 50. They have filled their roster, but are still looking for one more pitcher who, according to league rules, must be at least 28 years old. The team has a father–son duo in Brandon and Jackson Murray, of Bath. The team is managed by Jake Tidd, a former coach at Morse High School in Bath.

Phil Page, the spirit of Lincoln Academy, has announced he will retire after almost 49 years in education. Page has been the face of LA for many of those years, waving a LA flag during the homecoming parade, leading cheers at school assemblies, organizing spirit week, leading the student body in reciting the school song, or being a cheerleader and supporter at all athletic events. Head of School Jeff Burroughs announced Page’s impending retirement in the school’s newsletter in February.

York won the battle of the undefeated with a 50-40 win over Medomak Valley boys basketball team in the South Class B Regional championship game to earn a berth in the State Class B title game. Both teams were 20-0 going into the contest. York led 14-9 at the quarter, the score was tied 20-20 at the half, and York led 34-27 at the end of three. The Wildcats took a nine point lead with four minutes remaining.

Third seed Telstar defeated sixth seed Wiscasset boys basketball team 74-67 in overtime in a South Class B quarter-final game on Saturday, Feb. 15 at the Augusta Civic Center. Wiscasset had lost to the Rebels 71-33 during the regular season. The Wolverines came into the contest with a game plan, that they executed near perfectly, except at the foul line, which proved to be their undoing. Wiscasset was led in scoring by Landin Shirey with 20, Jevar Garricks 16 and Julien King 12.

Five wrestlers from Lincoln Academy and Medomak Valley qualified for the State Class B championships, held in Lewiston on Saturday, Feb. 15. All five advanced to the championship round. Lincoln Academy’s Jakobi Hagar defeated Medomak Valley Shamus Pease in the championship bout to win the State 175 pound championship. The win was the first over Pease for Hagar all season. Medomak’s Grady Pease won the 190 pound State Btitle with a 12-0 major decision win over William Martinez.
