Meteorologists with the National Weather Service have classified the tornado that briefly touched down in Frankston on Wednesday as an EF0. Runoff election for District 2 Council seat set for June 7

The city of Palestine will hold a runoff election for the District 2 Councilmember seat on Saturday, June 7, according to City Manager Teresa Herrera. With 100 votes, incumbent Ava Harmon received 49% of the vote to Slyvia Brown’s 45% with a total of 92 votes. Billy Meazell III, of Pert, is headed back to race in Australia in the 50 lapper and 100 lapper at the Alexander Speedway. Meazell said this is the 50th anniversary for the 100 lapper. During Meazell’s last trip to the land down under, a documentary titled “Billy Down Under” was filmed and featured racing, learning about Australia and making new friends and fans. The documentary can be viewed on raceon.com.

Palestine National Day of Prayer event moving to new venue

Palestine’s National Day of Prayer event is moving to a new location this year. The community prayer hosted by Hope Station and led by local church and civic leaders is being held at noon Thursday at the Palestine Senior Activity Center, 200 N. Church St.In the past, the event has been held outdoors under the pavilions at Reagan Park. After a couple of years of crowds hindered by heavy spring showers and stormy weather, prayer event planners decided to move the event indoors.
