A bill that would keep the Texas Lottery alive and enact sweeping changes by placing it under a new agency was heard in a Senate committee on Monday, a last-minute lifeline for the increasingly scrutinized department and its games. Senate Bill 3070, filed by Sen. Bob Hall, R-Edgewood, would abolish the Texas Lottery Commission and move supervision of the state-sponsored game under the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation.

State Sen. Bob Hall laid out a bill in a Senate State Affairs Committee hearing on Monday with one purpose: ending the Texas Lottery. In a lengthy speech, the Edgewood Republican summarized all the problems at the Texas Lottery Commission that culminated in the agency allowing ticket sales he called illegal to occur. The city of Palestine will hold a runoff election for the District 2 Councilmember seat on Saturday, June 7, according to City Manager Teresa Herrera. With 100 votes, incumbent Ava Harmon received 49% of the vote to Slyvia Brown’s 45% with a total of 92 votes. East Texas racer returns to the land down under

Billy Meazell III, of Pert, is headed back to race in Australia in the 50 lapper and 100 lapper at the Alexander Speedway. Meazell said this is the 50th anniversary for the 100 lapper. During Meazell’s last trip to the land down under, a documentary titled “Billy Down Under” was filmed and featured racing, learning about Australia and making new friends and fans. The documentary can be viewed on raceon.com.
