At least sixteen personnel were injured after an explosion ripped through the second floor of the city police station in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Swabi district on Thursday, police said. A statement from the Swabi police spokesperson said the explosion was caused by a short circuit in a room where material and case evidence were dumped, injuring 16-17 personnel and damaging the building. It added that a departmental inquiry would be initiated against the negligent police officers.

Three people were killed while seven others were injured as a result of an explosion on Thursday in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Mardan district when an explosive device planted on a bridge was set off, police officials said. Pakistan has seen a significant rise in terror-related incidents across the country, particularly after the militant group Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) broke a truce with the government in November 2022 and began targeting security personnel.

Two railway constables were martyred while five people — including a police inspector — were injured after the police clashed with the staff of a private shopping mall over a land dispute on Nowshera Road in Mardan on Sunday. DPO Zahoor Babar Afridi said there was a lease dispute between Zaman Sons Shopping Mall on Mardan Nowshera Road and the Railway Department for some time, adding that the matter had also been taken to the Peshawar High Court.

A policeman escorting a polio team was shot at and injured in an attack by unidentified miscreants in Mardan’s Pirsadi area on Tuesday, officials said. According to Saddar Circle Superintendent of Police (SP) Khalid Khan, unknown assailants on a motorcycle opened fire and managed to escape from the crime scene. He identified the wounded cop as Zohar Qayyum.

One cop was martyred while three others were injured in an exchange of fire with terrorists in Mardan’s Katlang tehsil during the early hours of Tuesday, according to an official. Speaking to Dawn.com, Mardan District Police Officer (DPO) Mardan Najeebur Rehman said that a police team headed by Rural Superintendent of Police (SP) Aijaz Khan Sherpao headed to the Mata Katlang area on the reported presence of terrorists. He said that upon spotting the police team, the terrorists opened fire.
