The tiny soot-covered female was a soprano pipistrelle, Britain's smallest species of bat. It was discovered by an elderly woman after it fell down a chimney while trying to roost near Tynemouth Priory, North Tyneside. Bat wildlife rescuer Ellesse Janda, 29, dashed to rescue the bat after receiving an emergency call last Friday (30/6).
