    The OSAA volleyball state tournaments wrapped up this weekend. Here is a roundup of Mid-Valley action. CLASS 6A — Sprague finishes fifthSprague’s volleyball team placed fifth at the OSAA Class 6A state tournament. The Olys lost 3-2 to Nelson in the third-place match after falling 3-1 to Oregon City in the state semifinals. Sprague beat Sunset 3-0 in the quarterfinals. CLASS 6A — South Salem finishes sixthThe Saxons lost 3-0 to Sherwood in the OSAA Class 6A fourth-place match.

    Jack Meier turned in a stellar performance Saturday at the OSAA Class 6A cross country meet to capture the state championship. The West Salem senior ran 15:23.7 at Lane Community College to win the title by a good margin over Ida B. Wells’ Asher Danielson, who had a time of 15:40.0. Meier is the first Salem-Keizer 6A champion since West Salem’s Ahmed Muhumed won consecutive titles in 2015-16. Meier’s championship came a week after winning the Central Valley Conference championship.
