What are allergies? Put simply, allergies occur when the immune system reacts inappropriately to a harmless, foreign substance that gets inside the body. The substance is known as an allergen. Adam Fox is a professor of paediatric allergy at several London hospitals, and one of the UK's leading experts on the subject. "People who are allergic have a broad genetic tendency called 'atopy' where they have the potential for inappropriate immune responses," he says.

Unpleasant behaviourHe caterwauled all the way home. On arrival, the first sign of recognition came when he met our dogs. He started preening around them. Preening around us would take a little longer. He had been gone exactly a week, had visibly lost weight, and his coat was stained with motor oil, presumably from slinking under cars. Pictures of him home safely were shared with the many people who had helped us - with champagne emojis. An hour after I had learnt he was safe, my phone rang.

An experienced vet recommends the best dog food for adult and senior dogs, puppies, small breeds and even for dogs with sensitive stomachsFor over half a century, I've lived alongside dogs, both as a devoted owner and as a practising veterinarian. So, I've seen the devastating consequences of inadequate diets and the remarkable vitality of dogs thriving thanks to a well-balanced diet. Navigating the complexities of canine nutrition can be challenging, however the rewards are immeasurable.

I'm backer #75 of 'What is the health status of wild stranded dolphins in the west coast of Ireland?' on @lets_experiment https://t.co/6NgkqYqZsD This is a great project! Please join me in helping these researchers

I love this #BSAVA concept. A fireside chat with a well known vet, just "shooting the breeze". Today it's Danielle Gunn-Moore, the most expert cat expert of them all. If my own cat was ever seriously ill, she's the person I'd talk to. https://t.co/PoYsKG2Cml

Artificial Intelligence is making a mark in vet clinics, just as it is in other areas of life. I went to a few lectures on this today: it's early days & still far from perfect but it's easy to see that in a decade, this will play a major role for both vets and pet owners #bsava25 https://t.co/TlcZfWt51G
