I have been involved with the coach industry for over 20 years, from my time as Chair of the London Coach Forum while at Transport for London and then from 2016 working for the London Tourist Coach Operators Association and now the UK Coach Operators Association (UKCOA). One topic that has been close to the top of the in-tray across all that time is coach parking.

It does not seem that long ago that we entered 2025, yet we are already past winter and the year is a quarter way through. I was hoping that we would have seen some important developments and even announcements from the government concerning the coach industry over the past three months, but sadly we are still waiting.

Earlier this month I had the pleasure of attending a reception hosted by the Accessible Transport Policy Commission and Baroness Grey-Thompson. The main speaker was Secretary of State for Transport Louise Haigh. She states many are being held back by society to live their fullest life and that access to public transport is a right, not a privilege.

Last month I focused on the issues we raised with the Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Transport. This month we are focusing on those issues that are most pertinent with coach operators. The UK Coach Operators Association (UKCOA) holds monthly meetings with its members and industry partners, and at the last meeting we asked them how the year had panned out. The responses were enlightening.

So let's try in French. Nope. Wonderful hotel clerk waits on hold one hour while Doug other things. Suspect #AirFrance never answers phone

#AirFrance wins. 45 minutes on hold and I have to leave for a dinner. Lets see if I can at least get a refund on my seat upgrade.

Thought US airlines bad but #AirFrance new champ for bad-35 minutes so far on hold to fix their botched seat assignment
