Clarify Powers of State Auditor, known also as House Bill 549, got considerable debate and some amendments along the way before Tuesday evening’s 66-46 passage in the chamber with 71-49 majority Republicans. There were no Democrats for it, and only Rep. Ray Pickett of Watauga County against it from the Grand Old Party. Dave Boliek is the first-term Republican auditor.

(The Center Square) – Lines have formed at California Department of Motor Vehicles offices as people try to meet the deadline for their REAL IDs.Starting Wednesday, Americans will need the ID to go on domestic flights or enter secure federal facilities or certain military bases. The deadline for the REAL IDs, which Congress adopted after 9/11, has been pushed back several times over 20 years. The federal REAL ID Act became law in 2005.

(The Center Square) – California lost a net 11,600 jobs in March as private sector job losses exceeded taxpayer-funded job gains, the plurality of which came from a single welfare program in which Californians are paid minimum wage to care for family members. The California Center for Jobs and the Economy’s analysis for state and employment for March 2025 found the state lost a net 26,800 private sector jobs, while government and taxpayer-funded employment grew by 15,200 jobs.
