When I joined Brent Spiner’s (Star Trek: Picard, Star Trek: The Next Generation) autograph line at GalaxyCon Columbus, I was nervous. I’ve been meeting actors at theater stage doors ever since I was 16 years old. But dropping by an actor’s comic con booth still felt new to me. Within minutes, I’d reached Spiner’s table. I paid the handler, who placed a Data/Sherlock Holmes print—which I’d picked out—near the actor’s arm.

When director, writer and producer Terry Matalas (12 Monkeys) was working on Star Trek: Picard, he was pushing 18-hour days easily with his schedule. At GalaxyCon Columbus, Matalas, Todd Stashwick (Shaw), Jonathan Frakes (Riker) and Brent Spiner (Data, Lore, Adam Soong, Dr. Altan Inigo Soong) shared stories about doing season three. Getting the series right was important to Matalas as a longtime Star Trek fan. Other writers agreed with his approached.

Even though it’s been 23 years since Boy Meets World aired its series finale, the coming-of-age show remains popular among new and old fans alike. Cast members Danielle Fishel (Topanga), Rider Strong (Shawn), Trina McGee (Angela), Will Friedle (Eric), and Matthew Lawrence (Jack) came to GalaxyCon Columbus to meet fans, reminisce, and discuss new projects. McGee enjoyed the environment on set with her former cast mates.

I remember back when I was three years old, I always sang along with the radio when it came to the “Oh, oh, oh” part of Paula Abdul’s (American Idol, So You Think You Can Dance) hit “Straight Up.” So there was no way I’d miss her panel at GalaxyCon Columbus. The 61-year-old singer, dancer, and TV personality loves to talk about dance. In fact, she’s still brought to tears whenever she sees beautiful dance performances. When Steve Burns was auditioning for Blue’s Clues in the late 1990s, his career could have wound up differently. During his GalaxyCon Columbus panel, Burns said, “I was almost a recurring regular on a TV show called Homicide, which was the most serious show!”He did take the role of Steve on children’s show Blue’s Clues, which he was on from 1996 to 2002 and returned briefly for a 2021 special. During the pandemic, Burns addressed why he left the show in a video that went viral.

Wandering through the exhibit hall at GalaxyCon Columbus, I paused when I noticed Steve Whitmire heading toward the photo op curtains. As he was carrying his Kermit the Frog puppet with him, he suddenly stopped to greet a child passing by with a parent. He bent over slightly with Kermit to say something and entertain the pair before he disappeared behind the curtains.
