By Nicole LimpertSt. Luke’s Hospital, named after St. Luke, the patron saint of physicians, was founded by members of the Episcopal Church in 1866 to provide healthcare to the growing city of St. Louis, Missouri. St. Luke’s opened its 25-room infirmary with a staff of eight physicians. The excellent care provided by the hospital staff enabled growth and expansion. In 1948, the Presbyterian Church joined in the mission of its healing ministry.
