Here we go again, with Trump. For a while he was only a candidate. Now he’s President, and everything he says must be taken seriously, or at least reported seriously. Even before his inauguration, Donald Trump began to disrupt the world. One danger is that he comes to be seen simply as an agitator, just seeking attention.

President and Fellows of Harvard College, the Supreme Court held that Harvard’s admissions process for new students violated the US Constitution’s guarantee of “equal protection of the laws.” The Court found that the Harvard’s system for admitting new students did not meet any “measurable or rational” standards.

Donald Trump’s nomination of Matt Gaetz for Attorney General was a shocking choice, even for Trump—very possibly the worst choice for a cabinet post in US history. The fascinating question is why Trump did it. Certainly, Gaetz—although clearly unqualified for the position—was a serious choice, nominated for Attorney General, the head of the Justice Department.

Donald Trump did not take much time after his election victory to start naming his senior officials, a process that is still ongoing. This is particularly important for Trump, because he found in his first term that many of his senior appointees did not consistently agree with his policies and were reluctant to endorse or approve his actions.

Donald Trump’s popularity is a paradox. It seems unlikely that most Americans—if they actually listen to what he says—would vote for him. Yet, in a few weeks, he could be elected President of the United States. Why? There are partial answers. Most of the discussion about how Israel should respond to the latest Iranian missile attack fails to consider that Iran is not an ordinary aggressor country, driven by a desire to dominate its neighbors or its region. Instead, Iran is a “theocratic republic,” headed by a Shi’ite religious figure, appointed for life, who makes all important governmental decisions.
