Police officers are on the Walter Sisulu University campus in Mthatha after a staff member allegedly opened fire during a protest by students. A third-year Walter Sisulu University (WSU) student was killed and another wounded after they were allegedly shot at by their residence manager on Tuesday morning. The staff member's wife was also injured during the violence at the WSU's Nelson Mandela Drive campus in Mthatha on Tuesday morning, Eastern Cape police said.

A Johannesburg man accused of murdering his mother and brother by stabbing them with a knife multiple times has nowhere to live because his father doesn't want anything to do with him. This emerged in the Randburg magistrate's court on Thursday during Ahben Pillay's brief appearance. Pillay, 38, told his lawyer he would stay with his surviving parent if granted bail.

Gauteng police have arrested a suspect in connection with the murders of two Rea Vaya bus drivers last month. The suspect was arrested in Linden, Johannesburg, on Tuesday and appeared in the Protea magistrate's court on Thursday. He was remanded until March 27 as police investigations continue. Police spokesperson Col Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi said the suspect was arrested after police received a tip-off.

The Johannesburg high court on Wednesday sentenced Nonhlelelwa Matsebula to 30 years in prison for the kidnapping and murder of a four-year-old girl in Protea last year. The court ordered Matsebula, 34, to serve 20 years of the imposed sentence before she is considered for parole. Matsebula had pleaded guilty to murdering Keeya Mbulawa.

The not-for-profit organisation Betereinders unveiled its “Not USA, but You SA” campaign in Pretoria on Saturday. Over a braai and under a banner proclaiming their campaign, the group said they did not believe Afrikaners were victims who needed refuge in the US due to the government's land policies.
