Getting paid to watch baseball, specifically the Minnesota Twins for the Star Tribune. No, I can't believe it, either.

David Festa messed up the Twins' plans. The Twins called up the second-year righthander from Class AAA St. Paul on Friday to give the starting rotation an extra day off during a stretch of 12 consecutive games. But there were hints and intimations that Festa's stay would be a one-game cameo, and that Zebby Matthews would ultimately be chosen to fill in while Pablo López is on the injured list with a sore hamstring. Now he's been invited to stay a bit longer.

Edouard Julien led off the Twins batting order for the first time this season on Sunday, and Byron Buxton batted second for the first time, too. Something else was different too. Julien and Buxton both homered from their new spots, and the Twins salvaged the final game of three-game series with Detroit, winning 5-1 at Target Field. The Twins ended their three-game losing streak with the victory, only their second in eight games, and avoided claiming the worst 16-game start in team history.

Joe Mauer was a shortstop throughout much of his childhood, until his father and grandfather pointed out something important to him. "They told me, 'the quickest way to the big leagues is playing catcher," Mauer recalled on Target Field Plaza on Sunday morning. "So what did I do? I went and got some catcher's gear." Turns out, it was the quickest way to become immortalized in bronze, too.

Byron Buxton doesn't often show much emotion on the field, so his upper-deck home run Friday night didn't come with anything more than his usual truck-horn gesture, a tribute to his father, as he rounded second base. But to the veteran outfielder, that blast had a lot more meaning than he let on.

The Twins turned things around on Saturday, limiting the Tigers to just five hits, allowing Detroit to put runners on base in just three of the nine innings, and blanking them, 0-for-4, with runners in scoring position. Sure, sure, it was yet another loss - 4-0 Tigers was the final, dropping the Twins to a 4-11 on the season, tied for their worst start ever - but at least the game seemed more competitive than some have been lately. Except for when the Twins are at bat, of course.

Fears of bad weather in St Louis today were greatly exaggerated. (Or were until I just jinxed it.) A light shower passed through in the last hour, and there could be another, but today’s game at Busch Stadium seems in no danger.

The Cardinals are understandably not shy about reminding you of their championships. I checked, though — no mention of 1987. https://t.co/BFc7vsrErF
