Two things that are blissfully not my problem are kids and podcasts. I don't have kids, and I don't have a podcast. It's all very freeing. So I might not be the best person to make the following recommendation. On the other hand, I was once a kid, and I have listened to podcasts, and I feel you need to know about a new example of the latter, made by the former. I’m talking about The Horror Boys Podcast, which debuted on Spotify recently and moved me to tell you about it.

As anyone reading this surely knows, Stuart Gordon’s Re-Animator defined an era, launched several careers, and brought the work of H.P. Lovecraft to the horror scene in a way that remains unmatched. The 1985 film is an enduring, unassailable classic, the rare ’80s horror movie to be both critically lauded upon release, and rightly celebrated 40 years later. Today, one of the shepherds of the film’s legacy is its star, Barbara Crampton.

The recent news that Parker Finn and and Robert Pattison are exploring a remake of Andrej Żuławski’s Possession met with, well, some strong opinions from horror fandom. And with valid reason: Żuławski’s delirious 1981 epic, about a couple in Berlin going through a volatile separation while one is sleeping with a slimy, otherworldly being is as autobiographical as it is inscrutable.

By now you’re aware of Peacock’s Hysteria!, and that it features Bruce Campbell, who’s been promoted heavily in the marketing of the new show (which dropped today). But turns out he’s not the only genre icon appearing on the series. Early viewers of Hysteria! have been excited to spot among its ensemble cast none other than Barbara Crampton and Jeffrey Combs, playing a bit against type as suburban parents.
