While the genre can often be a reliable moneymaker, much of that has to do with the fact that the movies are typically made on the cheap, making it a relative game. This past weekend though, director Ryan Coogler’s Sinners arrived as a big-budget, wholly original vampire tale and managed to top the charts with the biggest opening for an original movie of any kind this decade.

In a climate thick with public domain horror adaptations, please trust me when I say, The Ugly Stepsister is not what you think it is. Emilie Blichfeldt's feature directorial debut is a gorgeously grotesque take on the fairytale, returning it to its dark roots before pushing it firmly into epic body horror territory. Dare I say, it's classy? Because it is. But don't be deterred by that. There's also a hefty amount of worms going in (and coming out of) places worms have no business in.

The Boogeyman director Rob Savage has found his next project, and he’s bringing an IT star with him. Deadline reports that Savage is teaming up with Jessica Chastain for an adaptation of Incidents Around the House, based on the novel of the same name by Josh Malerman. Atomic Monster and Blumhouse are also behind the film, which will be released by Universal Pictures. The adaptation will be penned by Succession writer Nathan Elston, based on Malerman’s novel.
