Increasingly, we are hearing rhetoric about how domestic logging in Canada, Australia, Europe, and the US is ‘home grown, green, sustainable,’ and necessary to avoid global (offshore) deforestation problems. In a May 1 Letter in Science Magazine, “Benefits of onshoring forestry rely on science,” lead author Matthew Betts claims there is scientific support for onshore (domestic) logging as directed in the Trump timber executive orders.
