We very much appreciate that our article1 has stimulated discussions on potential reasons for temporal variations in insect biomass.     INTRODUCTION Tropical rainforests are some of the most biodiverse regions on Earth (Raven et al., 2020; Wilson, 1988). However, in recent decades large areas have been lost primarily due to forest clearance for agriculture (Curtis et al., 2018; Potapov et al., 2017).
