Marlins dominate home meet, take top spot by 173 points

The Moore County Marlins opened the season at home at Dumas Aquatic Park Saturday, May 31 where they took first place overall with a total of 593 points. Spearman finished second with 420 points, Guymon took third with 288 points, Ulysses finished fourth with 217 points, Elkhart took fifth with 64 points and Southwest Aquatic team took sixth with 29 points. Below are the final results for the Marlins.

On Saturday, May 31 the Dumas Demon 7-on-7 held its annual SQT Meet with seven other teams in town to qualify for a spot in the championship tournament at College Station June 26-27. There was also a Lineman Challenge being held in the Demon Dome for teams to qualify to compete in Abilene for the Lineman Challenge State competition June 21.

The Demons advanced on a touchdown pass against Stephenville. The Demons began tournament play with a 25-12 victory over Graham, followed by a 41-28 win over Benbrook. Later in the semifinals, they defeated Lubbock Christian 26-13.

The Dumas Demon 7-on-7 team competed at their first SQT Meet (State Qualifying Tournament) Saturday, May 17 at Justin and lost in the championship game. They began with a 28-21 victory over Life Oak Cliff, followed by a 46-20 victory over Nevada Community. Later they defeated Ponder 25-18 in the semifinals. In the championship round they had the opportunity t defeat Frisco Panther Creek on the last play from the two-yard line but couldn’t convert to fall 25-20.
Demonettes end season as regional finalists

The Dumas Demonette softball team’s historic season came to an end after falling to the Andrews Lady Mustangs 2-0 in a best=of-three series in the Regional Finals Friday, May 16 and Saturday, May 17. They fell in Game One, 11-9, and the fell in Game Two, 15-2. Game OneAndrews wasted no time getting things going as they took a 4-0 lead in the top of the first inning with back-to-back-to-back home runs.
