1 IntroductionHybrid breeding programs have been a decade-long success story in corn, but are also increasingly implemented in crops that have previously been commercialized as homozygous line varieties, such as wheat (Schulthess et al., 2017), barley (Philipp et al., 2016) or rapeseed (Stahl et al., 2017). By implementing hybrid breeding, breeders hope to improve performance, resilience and yield stability of their varieties.
