Priya Chakrabarti Basu discovered her love for honey bees studying zoology as a graduate student in her native India. Honey bees, however, were not a common topic of research in her home country. Her faculty advisors were actually an ecologist and a molecular cardiologist.

January 13, 2025 By Communications staff, Washington State University Washington State University will no longer support phone-based multi-factor authentication (MFA)—SMS (text messaging) and voice call—effective March 25. Starting at 8 a.m. on that date, WSU accounts that rely solely on SMS and voice call authentication for MFA will be locked.

The bird flu is not just in birds anymore. The virus H5N1 is spreading rapidly in dairy cows—and sometimes jumping to the people who work with them. Washington State University’s Murrow College of Communication researchers are helping tailor messages to reach dairy workers to help keep them and their herds safe. The team was tapped by the U.S. Department of Agriculture to create these messages and help the nation’s Extension agents deliver them.

January 10, 2025 By RJ Wolcott, WSU News & Media Relations Sam Hunt, a longtime member of the Washington Legislature and Washington State University alumnus, will be returning to his alma mater to serve on its Board of Regents. Appointed by Gov. Jay Inslee, Hunt’s term began Dec. 31 and runs through Sept. 30, 2030. He will join his fellow regents for a series of special meetings of the board Jan. 13-15.
