Two U.S. human rights advocates are challenging the Trump administration’s executive order imposing sanctions on Karim A.A. Khan QC, the chief prosecutor of the International Criminal Court (ICC) in a lawsuit filed by the ACLU and ACLU of Maine. As the lawsuit explains, these sanctions violate the First Amendment by prohibiting the advocates, and other Americans like them, from speaking with the ICC’s Office of the Prosecutor, including by providing legal advice, expert analysis, and evidence.

Kampala, Uganda – April 2, 2025 — Police in Kampala have arrested nine youth activists who stormed the headquarters of Stanbic Bank Uganda, protesting its involvement in financing the controversial East African Crude Oil Pipeline (EACOP) project. The activists, part of the Students Against EACOP Uganda group, were taken into custody at Kampala Central Police Station following their demonstration.

We know that the situation, particularly in the east, is serious,” he told the media on his arrival.
