A long-term partnership is always special in equestrianism, and when a rider joins up with their first horse at 12 years old and then takes that horse to their debut four-star at 17, it’s a serious thrill. That’s the story of Jago Jackson and Glynndale Prometheus, who recently finished sixth in the under-25 championship at Defender Bramham Horse Trials. “We have grown and learnt together and it’s been such a fun journey. No one else has ever done an event on him,” says Jago.

Jalapeno, who won three times at four-star and finished sixth at Badminton Horse Trials, has been retired from eventing. The 17-year-old mare suffered an injury on the cross-country at Luhmühlen Horse Trials on Saturday (14 June), but is now home at Gemma Stevens’ West Sussex yard and “comfortable and happy in her lovely stable next to her best friend Alfie (Chilli Knight)”. “[The cross-country at Luhmühlen] was a super tough day.

Full feather lovers, ahoy! Gypsy cob Jasper Carrott won his first British Eventing run in a BE80 section at West Wilts earlier this month (7-8 June) with Sarah Edmunds, following up on Sarah’s six top-three placings across this and last season with her other gypsy cob I Should Coco. “We can either terrify the fancy blood horses with our flying feather – people say to keep them away in the warm-up – or people want to hug my cobs,” said Sarah.

Bubby Upton scored her first senior CCI4*-L win when she topped the Defender Bramham Horse Trials results this afternoon on nine-year-old Its Cooley Time, owned by his rider and the Five Time Syndicate. Bubby had a fence in hand by the time she and “Finn” entered the showjumping arena, but didn’t need it. The pair rattled the upright at two, but never looked in danger of losing their title after that.

Three horses left the CCI4*-L competition at or before the Defender Bramham Horse Trials final trot-up this morning. Forty-three horses finished the cross-country yesterday, so 40 now go forward to the final showjumping phase. France’s Camille Lejeune withdrew Dior Du Leou, owned by S. C. Camatieu, Pascale Audonnet, Franck Messaille and his rider, before the inspection. He was 26th overnight after a clear cross-country round with 10.8 time-faults.

I’m not sure how many times I (and others) have to say this, but let’s try again. You do not always lose your hair if you have chemo. There are lots of different types. Some do not cause hair loss. (I had 12 cycles. I did not lose my hair.)

Londoners. Please. Don’t wait to be asked to move your bag off the empty seat on public transport. Pick up after your dog. Run right into the funnel at Parkrun. We can do better than this.
