Barcelona's team plane landed at around 4am on Wednesday after a rollercoaster two days in Milan. They had been knocked out of the Champions League at the semi-final stage by Inter, thanks to a cruel twist of fate from their point of view. With less than three of the second leg's 90 minutes to go, Barcelona were ahead for the first time in the tie thanks to a goal from Raphinha which looked like it had completed a remarkable comeback 2-0 down on the night (and 5-3 overall) for Hansi Flick's side.

Barcelona head coach Hansi Flick says striker Robert Lewandowski and full-back Alejandro Balde are not fit enough to start against Real Madrid in their La Liga clash on Sunday. Lewandowski made his return after a four-match absence due to a hamstring injury as he played in extra time of Barcelona's 4-3 (7-6 aggregate) Champions League semi-final defeat by Inter. Balde, meanwhile, has also missed Barcelona's last seven matches with a hamstring issue.

Asked about Lamine Yamal in the aftermath of the teenager's scintillating display against Inter, his Barcelona coach Hansi Flick called the winger a "genius". Others went further, suggesting he is Barcelona's best player, the finest 17-year-old in modern times, or simply the world's best footballer. Flick added a note of caution to his praise, saying: "It can't just be a one-off. That's what I want from him and all the players. The ability to improve. You have to work hard.

A madcap Champions League semi-final first leg between Barcelona and Inter was delicately poised at 3-3 when we caught a glimpse of the fine margins behind the Catalans' success this season. In the 74th minute at Montjuic, right-back Denzel Dumfries produced a perfect cross from the right-hand side across Barca's defensive line.
