NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH) — A new step in transit-oriented development is coming to New Haven. The parking lot just down from Union Station will soon look very different after a $316 million housing and commercial development project. Gov. Ned Lamont (D-CT) and city leaders took to Union Station on Wednesday to announce the progress being made. “In five years, you’re going to see what is now parking spots and vacant space, become neighborhoods,” said New Haven Mayor Justin Elicker.

WETHERSFIELD, Conn. (WTNH) — A pair of Central Connecticut servicemen who died in the line of duty, Robert Sharkevich and Bobby Garten, were honored on a mural in Wethersfield on Tuesday. The two men were honored at the 9/11 Memorial Sports and Community Center in town. After the public unveiling Tuesday of the mural, the men are forever remembered as hometown heroes. “Wow, it just really looks alive,” Robert Sharkevich’s sister Karen Letizio said. Hartford policeman Bobby Garten died in 2023.

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH) — In Monday’s heat, many of us opted to stay indoors or at least out of the sun. But, for some New Haveners, going to work meant braving the conditions. This includes roofers, even closer to the sun than us here on the ground. “Safety is very important,” Noel Bermudez of Brown Roofing said. “I mean, you can lose a life on the roof, it’s very high up.”Bermudez was keeping close eyes on his crew. “Just making sure they’re looking stable, not weak,” Bermudez said.

Now their name will forever be a part of that very road in the pizza capitol of the U.S.As of Friday, Frank Pepe’s Pizzeria officially sits on Wooster Street at the Frank and Filomena Pepe Corner. “If this city is the nation’s pizza capitol, in many ways, this is it’s capitol building,” U.S. Rep Rosa DeLauro (D, CT-3rd) said.
