1 Introduction The ground penetrating shield tunnel (GPST) method, also known as ultra-rapid under pass (URUP) method, was first developed for underpass tunnel construction in densely populated areas [1]. The GPST method utilizes a tunnel boring machine (TBM) launched from the ground surface, progressively boring at larger embedment depth, coming back up to shallow embedment depth, and finally arriving at the ground level or in a shallow guide-pit.

Dear Editor, We would like to share ideas on the publication ‘Research on the relationship between nurses' compliance with standard precautions, servant leadership and emotional exhaustion: A cross-sectional survey’ (Du et al., 2024). The purpose of the study was to evaluate the effects of servant leadership on nurses' emotional failure and compliance with standard precautions and to explore the moderating effect of individual resilience.

AbstractBeam shaping and polarization manipulation are of great importance for the design of microcavity lasers. Recently, topological photonic cavities have emerged as excellent platforms for surface-emitting lasers. In this class of lasers, beam engineering has not thus far been extensively studied. Here, we demonstrate how to achieve an intrinsic lateral shift of the beam emitted by a topological laser.

High-dimensional polarization and spectral information are crucial in a wide range of applications, from everyday life to national security. However, obtaining this complex information typically requires cumbersome systems composed of separate polarimeters and spectrometers.

AbstractA regrowth method was used to synthesize large-sized colloidal quantum dots (CQDs). With the assistance of doping engineering, the synthesized CQD detectors demonstrate exceptional long-wavelength infrared detection performance, reaching up to 18 μm, significantly extending the spectral response limit for CQD-based infrared detectors. These detectors also achieve a reasonably high detectivity of 6.6 × 108 Jones.

Both trio and population designs are popular study designs for identifying risk genetic variants in genome-wide association studies (GWASs). The trio design, as a family-based design, is robust to confounding due to population structure, whereas the population design is often more powerful due to larger sample sizes. Here, we propose KnockoffHybrid, a knockoff-based statistical method for hybrid analysis of both the trio and population designs.
