1 Introduction Global climate warming is a well-documented phenomenon, with each of the past four decades being successively warmer than any preceding decade since 1850 (Quante 2010). Over the past 20 years, China has recorded its highest average temperatures since 1901, leading to significant climatic shifts such as increased rainfall in the north and stable or reduced rainfall in the south, expanding the northern rain belt (Ren et al. 2021).

The fish needed for the experiments were provided by the Rescue and Rehabilitation Center of Naked Carps in Lake Qinghai (Xining, China). Gills from 3 juvenile fishes (3-month-old, 5 ± 1.5 cm in length and 2.0–4.5 g in weight) were dissected after euthanasia with a lethal dose (80.0 mg/L) of MS-222 (Sigma, Shanghai, China) and used for primary cell culture according to the method of Wei et al. (2022).

To generate a yak population for selective sweep detection, we collected individuals from Yushu city in Qinghai 2021 (altitude: 4500 m, n = 25), Gangcha city in Qinghai 2021 (altitude: 3300 m, n = 30), and Hongyuan city in Sichuan 2020 (altitude: 3500 m, n = 25) (Fig. 1). All yaks were all male adults (Fig. 1) of similar age (4–5 years). The three yak populations within the five generations were genetically unrelated and are the three major domestic populations distributed on the Tibetan Plateau.

1. IntroductionThe yak (Bos grunniens), a distinctive bovine species native to the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, is exceptionally adept at withstanding the severe local conditions, such as freezing temperatures and oxygen scarcity. Currently, China’s yak population is estimated at 18 million, comprising roughly 18% of the country’s beef cattle inventory.
