Nativity has earned a chance to fight for a shot at the PIAA 1A Championship later this week at Penn State’s Medlar Field in State College. FOUNTAIN SPRINGS — Nativity is playing their best baseball of the season at the right time and picked up their second-ever PIAA state playoff win over MMI Preparatory Thursday afternoon. Ryan Examitis doubled home two runs in the first inning and Stephen Karinch shut down MMI Prep’s bats into the sixth inning for a 3-1 win to lead Nativity (12-11) to the PIAA 1A semifinals next Monday.

Tri-Valley and Nativity have both advanced to the PIAA quarterfinal playoffs which are set for first pitch Thursday afternoon at neutral site locations. The Bulldogs (20-6) defeated Holy Redeemer 6-5 in the PIAA 2A first round state playoffs and Nativity (11-11) took down Dock Mennonite 7-6 for their first ever PIAA 1A state playoff win. Tri-Valley redeemed themselves by reaching the PIAA state playoffs after falling to Tamaqua 4-0 in the Schuylkill League Championship.

Tamaqua's eight seniors left their legacy on the Blue Raiders baseball program this season after closing the season on a 14-game winning streak before falling in the District 11 4A Championship last week. Seniors Cooper Ansbach, Noah Steigerwalt, Matt Vecolitis, Mason Ligenza, Noah Mateyak, Luke Kane, Zach Breiner and Maximus Najarro helped lead Tamaqua to a 21-2 overall record.
